Mental Ray Override Material (Maya)
Quick post on a very useful but obscure attribute that can be added to any geometry so you can override the material that is assigned to it.
A practical use for this would be fur/hair in Maya. As by default hair and fur is shaded by Maya’s default shaders. These shaders are hard coded into Maya, and there is no usual way of just selecting the feedbackshape/pfxHair and assigning any shader you want to it.

Anti-Venom & Nokia Jules Receive 3D Total Awards!
Two Candy Lab images have been accepted into 3D Total’s galleries and been given Excellence Awards.
Anti-Venom was a promotional image created by Candy Lab’s Creative Director Fabrizio Fioretti to promote the studio’s organic abilities. Modelled in Maya. Detailed in zBrush. Rendered in Mental Ray.
Candy Lab created the Jules Verne Headphones for Nokia and was based on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
The image was modelled in Maya and rendered in Mental Ray.
The headphones were created by Director of 3D James Bowron.
